Un grupo de investigadores de la Universidad de California en Los Ángeles (UCLA) ha perfeccionado un método diseñado para matar a las células infectadas por el VIH.

El método denominado ‘Kick and Kill’ (‘patear y matar’) está dirigido a partículas de VIH latentes para que se revelen en las células infectadas y puedan ser atacadas por las células inmunitarias del cuerpo, lo que, según los investigadores, ofrece la esperanza de una posible cura.

Este método “usa células que son producidas naturalmente por el sistema inmunológico para matar las células infectadas que se esconden en el cuerpo, potencialmente erradicándolas”, explicó la Dra. Jocelyn Kim, profesora de la Escuela de Medicina David Geffen de la UCLA y autora principal del estudio.
